Michael Jackson - King Of Pop and King Of Fashion

Michael Jackson - King Of Pop and King Of Fashion

Michael Jackson since the early days of the Jackson Five did set himself apart from every other musical artist due to his tremendous talent and his unique sense of style and fashion. As a child star he showcased the bell-bottoms and the Afro and over the years he made the current military inspired suits a fashion statement, which will be permanently entrenched in our memories. Whether you liked or disliked Michael Jackson, his fashion and style was unique and inspiring to say the least. Many celebrity reporters often criticized Michael Jackson for his sense of fashion, but there were some that did look at his unique fashion sense during his famous trial, actually creating fashion inspiration.

Michael Jackson’s ever-changing looks over the decades throughout his career highlight many incredible and creative fashion and design elements.

In the early 1970s Michael Jackson burst into the pop scene wearing platform heels, wide bell-bottom pants and fringed shirts, delighting crowds with his astonishingly polished stage presence. If you are attracted to this era of Michael Jackson, try wearing a fringed shirt with a suede vest.

When Michael Jackson released the “Off the Wall” album, reaching adulthood, he introduced a sleeker look. He showcased pegged pants, a tuxedo jackets, black shoes and stark white socks, allowing his iconoclastic style of fashion to start taking shape. This fashion sense and look was probably the most sophisticated and easiest to emulate throughout Michael Jackson’s career. To achieve this particular era’s retro look, you can simply utilize a simple black suit with an open collared white dress shirt, adding black loafers, a fedora hat, and you’ll be ready to impress everyone, especially if you have mastered the moonwalk!

Many still think that Michael Jackson’s fashion sense came into fruition when the album “Thriller” shot to the top of the billboard charts. Michael’s signature red leather jacket with its detailed zippers, single white sequined glove and tight fitting parachute pants encompassed the look of the 1980’s. His hair style at the time was collar length and was frequently seen wearing mirrored aviator sunglasses. Many of us would probably avoid going for this look these days, you can still utilize some of Michael Jackson’s style by wearing a pair of cool aviator sunglasses and wearing a custom leather jacket. You will be the talk of the town with this fashion sense, especially if you attempt a Michael Jackson song at a Karaoke bar!

In the 1990s, Michael Jackson’s fashion sense was kind of edgy.  He often wore theatrical costumes during his performances, forgetting the fine sophisticated suits he was wearing in earlier years. He however did continue to look neat and sophisticated, never being caught up with the trends and popular fads. His fashion sense during this continued to follow classic styles, adding his own personal touches such as the military inspired accessories and his trademark armbands.

During the 2000s, Michael Jackson’s inspiring fashion sense had taken a backseat to his drastic plastic surgery and his controversial lifestyle. While defending himself in court against the child molestation charges, crowds of reporters and fans did gather to see what Michael Jackson was wearing on a daily basis. Michael Jackson never wore the same outfit twice during his courtroom appearances, with his clothes being designed and made by his personal designers. Michael did prefer wearing tailored suits with pinned military inspired brass medals and colorful vests which did stand out. It did go to show that Michael Jackson didn’t want to just follow typical fashion trends, but preferred to stick to his own fashion sense, which was what we all go to know and love. On one occasion he did appear at court wearing his Pajamas.

Once Michael Jackson was found “not-guilty” of child molestation charges, he did move to Bahrain, planning the long anticipated comeback. Michael Jackson would have inspired us even more with his fashion sense if only he was still alive, but one of his long surviving legacies after of course his great music, dancing and performances will remain his fashion sense.

Long live the King of Pop - the King of Fashion!
